Many Obese People Stop Taking Weight Loss Reducing Drugs.
Using an Affordable Drug to Maintain Lost Weight.
The available weight loss drugs to treat obesity are less than optimal, they are expensive, and many people stop taking them after a while. In the letter case, using a more affordable treatment to maintain the up to 25% weight reduction achieved by the most effective weight loss drugs would greatly benefit a large pool of people who went from severe/morbid/super obesity back to one or more weight categories (see Figure), and which would also provide additional revenue for the company owning the technology.
The Mechanism of Action
ZK Obesity Control, a start-up family-owned biotechnological company, discovered that daily treatment of leptin deficient obese Ob/Ob mice with an organic ZKC1 compound (a representative of a large pool of similar and available compounds) for 2 weeks stabilizes body weight for the next 4 weeks by a presently unknown but studied mechanism. The company hopes to find a financially strong partner willing to fully develop the most effective and least toxic ZKC compound for the treatment of obese people who abandoned the weight loss drugs but would not like to regain the weight what they managed to lose.
It is also presently unknown how ZKC compounds may affect visceral fat, an important regulator of metabolism. This is presently also under investigation.
